There are currently 9 Volleyball Satellite Clubs in the County that hold regular weekly junior sessions. These Satellite Clubs are delivered by volleyball clubs with qualified and experienced coaches and are open to any young person aged +14 within the local community. The clubs include South Hants, New Forest, Team Southampton, Solent, Portsmouth Pumas, Horndean and Hart & Rushmoor. The HVA aims to work with local clubs, schools and colleges to develop more of these opportunities for our young people to try, participate and compete in regular volleyball sessions. To see where and when these Satellite Club sessions take place please visit the Club Map.
Although there is plenty of good junior volleyball work taking place across the County there is still much to do to develop the sport at grassroots level. Many schools do not offer volleyball on their curriculum due to a lack of appropriate equipment or lack of confidence from PE teachers who have little understanding of the sport. The HVA aims to work with more schools to set up and run workshops for teachers to give them the confidence and knowledge to deliver the sport.
Within the Further Education sector in Hampshire volleyball is a very popular sport and there is a great deal of recreational volleyball activity taking place. As many as a dozen Colleges and Sixth Forms across the County currently deliver enrichment or extra-curricular volleyball sessions. These include Eastleigh, Barton Peverill, Richard Taunton, Brockenhurst, Peter Symonds, Queen Marys, Farnborough Tech, Havant, Portsmouth, St Vincent, Fareham & South Downs College.
Within the Higher Education sector there is also a good deal of volleyball taking place at both a recreational and competitive level across the County. Southampton University, Portsmouth University and Solent University are all actively delivering volleyball programmes within their institutions.
