Junior Training Camp –
On Tuesday 20th December 2016, a group of 26 junior volleyball players from around the region gathered together at Ballard School in the New Forest. Under the expert guidance of head coach Clayton Lucas a team of coaches supported the players through three hours of skills practice and games. The players paid £5 each for the session which was donated to the local food bank to help families in need at Christmas. It was a great chance for the players to meet players from other cubs and make new friends. A brilliant time was had by all, with plenty of hard work, learning and fun. Hopefully these sessions will be repeated in 2017 as we continue to promote the best sport in the world! Pictures of the event can be seen in the gallery here

‘Sitting Volleyball Mini-League – 1 October 2016’
The second fixture of the HVA Sitting Volleyball Mini-League took place on Saturday 1 October at the Harbour School, Tipner in Portsmouth. GB Women joined previous participants, Guernsey, South Hants Sitting VC and South Hants 2. Once again the matches were played in great spirit with friendly rivalry between four fantastic teams. South Hants Sitting VC came out top on the day, winning all their matches but there was excellent play from all the teams throughout. The results can be found in the ‘League’ section of this website: http://hampshirevolleyball.org.uk/league.html

We can split the boys and girls sessions if necessary. The training charge of £5 per player goes directly to pay for the venue and for the teams at the Inter Regional competition so training sessions need to be at least self funding.

‘Entries now open for the HVA Grand Prix Series 2016/17’
The HVA is very excited to announce it has sourced a venue to accommodate a Grand Prix style indoor volleyball competition at Bay House School in Gomer Lane, Gosport, PO12 2QP.
The Bay House venue is a brand new facility, with a wooden floor and viewing gallery and is very energy efficient. There is more than enough space for two courts to be played simultaneously. In addition, they are very keen to host us and have offered us a fantastic deal for the coming season.
We anticipate that the average cost per team will be in the region of £150 (which is less that half of the cost teams paid last year), but we also hope that on each Sunday teams will play 2 or 3 matches, offering even better value for money.
However, due to the fact that some teams missed their obligations to play some games last season, we plan to invoice a higher amount at the start of the season, and the difference between the actual cost incurred and the initial invoice will be reimbursed at the end of the season. Teams that do not fulfil their obligations will not have this ‘goodwill’ amount reimbursed.
The target teams are generally those who currently play local league and have players aspiring to play national league, or who are even playing national league today. The two teams with the highest cumulative points total over the season will represent Hampshire at SEVA.
Currently, we have booked 8 Sundays, from 1000 until 1700 as follows;
Ladies: 9th October 2016, 27th November 2016, 12th February 2017 , 19th March 2017
Men: 23rd October 2016, 4th December 2016, 29th January 2017, 2nd April 2017
Right now, we need a commitment from teams to enter, particularly as the opening fixtures are only a month away. So, please respond with your team name, secretary and treasurer contact details (i.e. email addresses and phone numbers). I should be grateful if you would send this information as soon as possible but not later than Friday 23rd September to Bev Cooper at the email address: email@example.com (see Cc box above for ease). Subsequently, we will announce the format and fixtures etc.

‘Sitting Volleyball Mini-League’
The second Sitting Volleyball Mini-League competition will be taking place on Saturday 1 October, between 1000 and 1700, at The Harbour School, Tipner, Portsmouth PO2 8RA. We are delighted to announce that Team GB Women will be taking part so do come along to support the teams. Entry is free and refreshments will be available.
Volleyball Workplace Challenge – Southsea –
On Monday 15th August Southsea Beach Courts hosted the first Hampshire Workplace Challenge Volleyball Tournament organised by Sport Hampshire and IOW (SHIOW) with support from Volleyball England. It was a perfect evening for volleyball with perfect blue skies and the sand glowing in the sunshine. The volleyball event attracted 5 local businesses from in and around the Portsmouth area including Portsmouth County Council, Flowstars, Mercury HR, SMR, Apollo Fire and SHIOW. On hand during the evening were 3 local Volleyball Clubs including the Pumas Volleyball Club, Portsmouth Ladies Volleyball Club and South Hants Sitting Volleyball Club who all helped provide some coaching as well as score the games.
Many of the teams were relatively new to volleyball and some even experiencing the sport for the first time. The format allowed each team to play some beach volleyball as well Sitting Volleyball and throughout the evening each team got the opportunity to play each other. It was a closely contested tournament but SMR ran out the eventual winners with Apollo Fire closely behind in 2nd place.
Julia Griskune (from the Apollo Fire team) commented at the end, “Thank you very much again for a wonderful experience! I totally enjoyed every single minute of it . It was very well organised – everyone had fun and also get some blood flowing. Absolutely great evening!”
At the end of the evening the 3 volleyball clubs were able to hand out flyers and give out information to all participants on their own club sessions in the hope of recruiting some new players.
Volleyball England looks forward to working with SHIOW in the near future to deliver another Volleyball Workplace Challenge event in Hampshire. Thank you again to all those that took part, SHIOW and the 3 clubs for your support in making this volleyball event such a great success.
